Wallowa Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department is here for you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing comprehensive emergency medical services to Wallowa County. Our dedicated team is committed to delivering swift, compassionate, and advanced care when you need it most.

Our Team

Our Emergency Department is led by Director Donald Taggart, Critical Care Paramedic, and Supervising Physician Gary Zeigler. Our highly skilled team includes:

  • Critical Care Paramedics: Experienced professionals with advanced training in critical care transport and emergency medical interventions.
  • Paramedics: Nationally and Oregon-registered paramedics prepared to handle a wide range of medical emergencies.
  • Advanced EMTs, Intermediate EMTs, and EMTs: Dedicated emergency medical technicians providing essential care and support.
  • Cross-Trained Staff: Many of our EMTs are cross-trained to work in other hospital departments, ensuring seamless patient care.
  • Respiratory Therapists: We also have staff that are cross trained as respiratory therapists to provide specialized respiratory care.
  • Scene and Inter-Facility Ambulance Care: Rapid response and safe transport throughout Wallowa County.
  • 24/7 Emergency Care: We are always available to provide immediate medical attention.
  • Community Outreach and Training: We offer CPR, First Aid, and interagency training to enhance community preparedness.
  • In-Hospital Support: Our crews assist with critical patients, neonatal resuscitation, and other patient/staff needs within the hospital.
  • Safe and Appropriate Transfers: We facilitate approved transfers to home or back to Wallowa Memorial Hospital from other facilities.

  • Comprehensive Training: All our paramedics are trained in cardiac, pediatric, obstetrics, advanced medical, neonatal, and trauma care.
  • State-of-the-Art Equipment: We utilize Hamilton Ventilators, Butterfly Ultrasound, Sapphire medication pumps, ISTAT point-of-care labs, O negative blood products, and an advanced medication formulary.
